How to block sites using Firefox, Chrome and Safari?

Here’s a question from one of our readers:
I am constantly distracted by social networking sites like Facebook and this greatly affects my workflow. I am also not very technical and it’d be great if you can suggest me some Browser extension that’ll help me block sites temporarily.
Thanks for the question. There are a lot of browser extensions to help you block sites, here’s a list.

Mozilla Firefox:

Firefox users can install the Leech Block add-on in order to block websites. All you have to do is add the sites you desire to block to the blacklisted sites and enable Leech Block.

Google Chrome:

Chrome users have 2 awesome extensions that’ll help them block websites. Website Blocker BETA andTemporary Site Blocker work as advertised. I’d definitely recommend the Website Blocker extension over the other mainly because it is in active development.

Apple Safari:

Safari users can either Edit the Hosts file or change Parental control options to block websites.
Don’t forget to read our post about blocking Facebook on a Macbook.
Good luck!
